GERALD M. JACOBS concentrates his practice in the area of civil litigation. He regularly appears before the state and federal courts of New York and New Jersey. Mr. Jacobs is a member of the New York and New Jersey Bars, and is also admitted to practice before the Southern District of New York, the Eastern District of New York and the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey.

In the area of civil litigation, Mr. Jacobs handles a wide variety of matters with an emphasis on commercial litigation, real estate, mortgage and lien foreclosures, bankruptcy and personal injury law.

In his commercial litigation practice, Mr. Jacobs represents individuals, closely held businesses, real estate developers, banks, insurance companies and large corporations in disputes relating to breach of contract, shareholder/partner deadlock, derivative actions, business purchases and dissolutions, business torts, debt collection, bankruptcy and insurance coverage. Mr. Jacobs also defends banks and corporations against claims asserted against them in personal injury actions.

Apart from his litigation experience, Mr. Jacobs is also an accountant with over twelve years experience, including the area of forensic evaluation.

The favorable decision Mr. Jacobs obtained for Republic National Bank of New York in the foreclosure action entitled Republic National Bank of N.Y. v. Schweky, was reported in the New York Law Journal and cited in Bergman on New York Mortgage Foreclosures for its wise litigation strategy on behalf of the foreclosing lender. Other noteworthy reported cases handled by Mr. Jacobs include Rose Glatzer v. Jay Glatzer, 73 A.D. 3d 1173, 905 N.Y.S. 2d 607 (2nd Dept. 2010).

Mr. Jacobs earned a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School in 1989 and was a member of moot court. He graduated cum laude from Brooklyn College, B.S., in 1977 majoring in accounting.
